EBE NSW PD Event - Current Economic Events and Monetary Policy with Dr David Orsmond

Date: Wednesday 13th August 2014

This information evening will be presented by Dr David Orsmond from The Reserve Bank of Australia. During this professional development event Economics teachers will be able to gain an update on current economic events and increase their understanding of monetary policy at the bank that conducts monetary policy, The Reserve Bank of Australia. Teachers will also be able to ask questions during the Q&A session. This will be an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, up to date information to share with your HSC Economics students as they approach the 2014 BOSTES HSC Economics examination.

EBE NSW PD Event – Teaching the HSC course (Year 12) in Business Studies, Economics or Legal Studies for the first time?

Date: Monday 8 September 2014
Time: 4.15-7.30pm
Venue: Department of Education and Communities NSW Building, 3B Smalls Road, Ryde

This course has been designed specifically for:

  • beginning teachers and experienced teachers who are teaching the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards NSW (BOSTES NSW) HSC Course (Year 12) in Business Studies, Economics or Legal Studies for the first time
  • teachers who may have already taught one of these courses in the past but who need a refresher course
  • teachers who intend to teach one of these courses in the near future.

EBE NSW PD Event – Field Trip to CHOICE Lab and Testing Facility 

Date: Wednesday 24 September 2014 (First week of the end of Term 3 school holidays)
Time: 10.30am – 1.00pm
Venue: 57 Carrington Road Marrickville NSW

Would you like a guided tour of the CHOICE Lab and Testing Facility to deepen your understanding of the subject matter in the Legal Studies, Business Studies and/or Commerce syllabuses?

CHOICE, the public face of the Australian Consumers’ Association, is used in classrooms across NSW as a teaching and learning resource by teachers of Business Studies, Legal Studies and Commerce. During this experiential professional development course, participants will increase their understanding of how CHOICE protects consumers as a non-legal mechanism and how CHOICE tests hundreds of products each year.

The course will begin with light morning tea giving participants an opportunity to network with each other and CHOICE staff. There will be a presentation about the past and present projects of the CHOICE organisation, and an opportunity to ask questions. Participants will then be able to view the testing labs in action and dialogue with the CHOICE testers. Participants will also be able to gain information about the possibility of organizing a field trip for their students to CHOICE in the future.

Limited to 20 attendees.

EBE NSW PD Event – Legal Update Conference

Update your knowledge in relation to the legal issues in the Legal Studies and Commerce syllabuses by hearing from experts in the legal world at EBE’s annual Legal Update Conference at the state’s law making institution, NSW Parliament House. Topics and speakers include:

  • “Dealing with young offenders” – Julianne Elliot, Community Legal Education Solicitor (Children’s Legal Service Legal Aid NSW) and Duty Solicitor (Parramatta Children’s Court)
  • “The A21 Campaign: A non-legal response to human trafficking and slavery” – Joshua Henry, Media and Communications Coordinator, The A21 Campaign
  • “The role of the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Race Discrimination Commissioner ” – Dr Tim Soutphommasane, Race Discrimination Commissioner
  • “The role of the ICAC NSW in preventing, investigating and exposing corruption” – Yvonne Miles, Principal Officer – Corruption Prevention, Independent Commission Against Corruption NSW (ICAC NSW)

2014 Business Educators Australasia (BEA) Biennial National Conference – 2 and 3 October 2014

Dates: Thursday 2 and Friday 3 October 2014
Venue: The University of Notre Dame, Fremantle, Western Australia

Business Educators Australasia (BEA), of which EBE NSW is a member, will hold its Biennial Conference in Perth, Western Australia on 2 and 3 October 2014. Australian educationalists from the spheres of commerce will unite in the port city of Fremantle to engage with ideas that will help steer them into the future. This conference will be a forum for responding to the conditions that confront our profession along with their respective challenges and opportunities. This is an opportunity to connect with colleagues from all over Australia and New Zealand to discuss the teaching of our subjects and plan a trip to a wonderful part of Australia. The Conference will also provide the opportunity for participants to be up-dated on the Australian Curriculum.

EBE NSW PD Event – HSC Business Studies Marketing (Topic 2) – Information Evening – “Marketing in a Business Context”

Would you like to increase your understanding of “Marketing” in HSC Business Studies? Do you need an update? Do you need some case studies?

This information evening will be presented by Dr Mo Kader from the SP Jain School of Global Management. It will enable teachers of the NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards HSC Business Studies course to increase and update their knowledge of the Marketing topic. Dr Kader will focus on the main elements involved in the development and implementation of successful marketing strategies, using actual business case studies, which teachers will be able to share with their students in the classroom.
